Purpose and Objectives
The American Celiac Society Dietary Support Coalition, a non-profit tax exempt organization, serves individuals suffering with dietary disorders such as:
_ Celiac Sprue Disease
_ Dermatitis Herpetiformis
_ Crohn's Disease
_ Lactose Intolerance
_ Wheat Intolerance
_ Various food allergies
_ Other dietary disorders.
The organization supports efforts in education,
research, and mutual support to individuals with dietary disorders.
It helps set up support groups, sponsors conferences, seeks funding for
education and research, identifies ingredients in foods and food supplements,
and educates the public about problems facing its members.
Membership
Membership is open to all individuals with
dietary problems, family and friends of these individuals, and medical
professionals interested in better health care for members. It is
also open to anyone interested in learning more about these particular
dietary problems and helping promote the ideals of our organization.
Membership Costs
Operating costs are provided by membership and general public contributions. An annual tax deductible contribution of $20 (international $30) is requested from all members. Fund raising activities and efforts will be made to secure grant funding.
Coalition Board
The Coalition Board consists of the Founders, Headquarters Director, the organization's representative to the National Digestive Disease Information Clearinghouse Advisory Board, and other appointed representative to the board, and a representative from each Coalition Support Group. The Board communicates through phone, mail, and meetings when feasible.
Membership Benefits
- Newsletter and bulletins are published 3-4 times a year, containing information on Celiac Sprue and related disorders. They provide information on local and national activities, medical news updates, recipes for patient's diets, helpful hints, and information on available special foods.
- Support group meetings, conferences, and social functions provide an opportunity to meet others with the same dietary problems and learn more about the disease.
- Help in preparing diet along with information on ingredients in food and food supplements.
- Help in locating places to eat that provide good, tasty foods which meet members diet restrictions.
- "Call A Friend With Celiac Sprue." This special telephone list provide participating members with someone who understands your problem and is willing to share their experience.
- Support lobbying efforts to changes in food and food supplement labels to better identify their ingredients.
- Support and encourage research to find the causes, cures, and treatment of Celiac Sprue and related disorders.
- Updated material and information on advances in health care and research on Celiac Sprue and related disorders.
- Support of medical professionals sincerely interested in providing health care specific to their needs.
Abstain from consuming Gluten (gliadin) products (WHEAT INCLUDING SPELT AND KAMUT, OATS, BARLEY OR RYE) and abstain from MILK products or use Lact-Aide before consuming milk. Note that Lact-Aide contains gluten.
